Stop...Go!

It's the end of the 6th week here and currently the school is taking a few kids on a North Wales trip this weekend. I, however, am staying put at Harlaxton to relax and enjoy the beautiful weather we have been having. I think it's rained maybe once in an entire week so I'm pretty darn surprised and excited by this change.

Anywho, this post won't be about my adventures to some distant land. Instead, it will be about things I've done during the weekdays, such as routines I've picked up, or things i've observed about an English lifestyle. For instance, English breakfasts include baked beans. I mean, baked beans? c'mon... Obviously I don't eat it lol but they also give you "bacon" but it looks like a small slice of ham which I don't eat as well (or the sausage they tend to give you). Toast and cereal happen to be my favorite (and only edible) things I'd wish to consume in the morning. Unfortunately their cereal selection is lacking, based on my personal preferences of course.

For the most part, the food here isn't so bad. Students before me have made it sound a lot worse than it actually is. We always have the option of a salad which is fabulous when the meat they give you looks a little less than distinguishable or it's any kind of seafood. Peanut Butter & Jelly sandwiches are always on option as well. Good thing I love PB&J! There is a suggestiong box though so it's not like they tell us to eat their food and deal with it. Catering to our old american favorites is something they attempt. We do get burgers, pizza, chicken patties, etc. Then, once a week we have some kind of special night which could be Mexican Night, Chinese Night, Italian Night, and this past week we had Indian Night. While these nights aren't quite as good as we would eat in the states...they put forth a lot of effort which is all I could ask for! Italian was good and mexican was as well...Chinese didn't seem like chinese and indian i heard was pretty tasty but I passed for a good ol PB&J!!

Basically during the week, each day is different. Monday I have all 3 of my classes: British Studies lecture at 8:30, then I go to Seminar at 9:40. Between seminar and lunch I either shower or nap. At 12, I go to lunch with everyone then I have a break until 3:10. Typicall within that time I either nap some more, or do other homework.... Well, I try. Sometimes facebook consumes me and I lose track of time... haha! At 3:10 I have my theatre class which I despise, and then at 4:10, I have Travel Writing which isn't fun either. I like writing, but not listening to my professor. Tuesdays and Thursdays I have no morning class, just my afternoon theatre and writing class. On wednesday I only have british studies in the morning, and then on friday I don't have any classes because it's a day for travel, unless its a "make up" day in which we are trying to make up for long weekends where we actually miss class. Those days suck, especially this coming wednesday in which we have double british studies: one in the morning and one in the afternoon. That day will be no bueno. My class schedule sucks for this semester which I suppose is trying to balance out all the fun I'm having outside of class.

My best friends here, Jessica and Meghan, and I have decided to make "travel sweatpants." We bought some really cheap sweatpants and some black paint. We're planning to write HARLAXTON across the butt, and we've been buying patches to the places we've visited so we're going to sew them on! I'm actually pretty excited. We also bought plain shotglasses at Asda (Walmart) and we are going to paint them and give them to each other as gifts and a way to remember each other, hehe. We're dorks, but we love each other and that's all that matters.

Life is great here, basically. However my roommates can drive me absolutely crazy by being loud 24/7 or clogging up our only sink with their long hair. Blegh! I guess that's just what happens when you have 3 roommates...which should never happen, ever again!

This weekend was Merrissa's birthday so a big group of us went into town to the Goose, where Merrissa had quite a bit to drink to "pre-game." Me and Meghan shared some Woo Woo, which is just a cocktail with low alcohol. It was really good, because it had cranberry juice in it. After that, we headed to Club It, where we basically made up the whole place, but there were poles and cages which really appealed to some of the girls lol. Me Meg and Daniel ended up staying til almost 3! It was a lot of fun but we were exhausted by the end of it.

Me and Meghan at the Goose!

Me and daniel

This is martin: he lives in grantham and works in the kitchen at harlaxton

Anywho, my plans for today would be going to town in about 10 minutes for the flea market they have every saturday with Meghan, Robb, and Daniel. Meg wants one of the hamburgers they sell because they are fabulous! But then I'll be beack here doing homework since I have a paper and presentation due on Monday. Gahhh i'm such a slacker!! I leave on Thursday for the Lake District in which I get to go mountain climbing and ghyll scrambling which means I get to climb up waterfalls, etc. I'm pretty stoked...so when you hear from me next, I will be an expert and climbing mountains and waterfalls!

here's a picture of my girlies!

Love you all!

oh no chelsea! am i one of your roomies who drives you crazy being loud? I assume the second portion of that sentence doesn't apply to me because i don't leave my hair in the sink, and i am the one who cleaned out the sick-nasty sink anyway. I am sooooooooooooooooooo sorry if i ever drive you crazy! tell me to shut up, and i will, and i'll feel terrible about it too. ps-i read a whole chelsea blog! yay!!!!!!!!!!!
pps-3 roomies TERRIBLE idea, not terrible people just a horrific idea.
